On Monday June 17th, Jenigh Ward pled guilty to the murder of 15-year old Elijah Gomez. On August 12, 2024 Jenigh Ward will be sentenced to 35 years in prison without parole.
A message from our President: “We find some comfort knowing that Mr. Ward is admitting guilt and that we do not need to prove that fact through showing our strong evidence throughout a lengthy trial. No number of years will bring Elijah back to us. Justice for Elijah is a concept we each define in our hearts. For some a guilty plea and a sentence of time served will be justice. For others 35 years is not enough and not even close to the time we feel he deserves. It is ok to hold those feelings.
Our ask of Elijah’s friends, family, and our community is that you bring Elijah’s kind and compassionate spirit with you everyday and live the best version of yourself. That is how you can bring true Justice to Elijah. Being your best. Doing more good. Correct your path when it drifts.
As a nonprofit created as Elijah Gomez’s legacy we will bring Justice to Elijah in the form of a long lasting symbol of hope and peace for the community; our healing garden.
We would like to extend gratitude to the Major Crimes division of the Hamden Police Department and every officer who worked Elijah’s case. We would also like to thank everyone in the State Attorney’s office. Both groups have, and continue to, worked tirelessly on Elijah’s case.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Gregory L. Borrelli and Kelly E. Davis, with assistance from Inspector Michael Mastropetre.
